535d is a great car but, think carefully before buying it. The engine is more complicated and that can lead to expensive falut finding if anythig does go wrong. Try a 530d it may tick all the boxes for you without the need for a higher level of techncal risk. And you will have cheaper insurance and running costs. The E60 will feel a lot more modern than the E46, a lot more grown up but mine handles as well as the 330 sport it replaced. I’m not up with modding these, they are a lot different than the E46. If you get a 535 then it will have the same callipers as mine on the front. Recently i have been getting a vibration through the clutch pedal when pressed slightly and a 'grumble / shudder' when accelerating in 5th 6th from lower reves.
